Weekly Symi South Route

Check out the fabulous island of Symi...

Day 1

We (Andy & Carole) greet you at Kos airport and then a 10 minute drive we arrive at Kardamena Harbour where Zeus Too awaits you. Relax with a welcoming drink and then really start your holiday with a traditional Greek meze at a local taverna. Your first night aboard your luxury motor yacht.

Lunch is served on the rear deck of Zeus Too

Day 2

Each morning we have breakfast in the shade on the aft deck, al fresco, and a chance to chat about the days sailing and how you would like to spend your day. For example, would you like a leisurely lunch in a bay en-route to your overnight destination or more time to enjoy the Island or Port of the day? After breakfast we up anchor and leave Kardamena to start your Island-Hopping Adventures. We head south to the island of Yialli and drop the anchor for lunch on board and a swim in the crystal clear waters before heading to Pali, Nisyros for your overnight stay. Pali is a pretty harbour retreat surrounded by tavernas, there is a little sandy beach, just past the port where you can take a welcome dip. If you wish to hire a car, scooter, or quad to explore this wonderful island and visit the semi dormant volcano you will have plenty of time. Check out Nikia and Emborio they are true Greek villages, and the views are spectacular. Before your evening meal at a taverna of your choice, the Zeus Too maritime Law occurs of happy hour with drinks and snacks. Then back on board for a night cap before retiring.

Day 3

A leisurely start to the day, watching Pali wake up and maybe a quick swim before leaving Nisyros and heading to the tiny island of Tilos and the port of Livadia. Tilos is a sleepy island, even in high season. It is an attractive island made up of hills topped with castles, quiet orchard valleys and empty beaches. Livadia has managed to retain much of its small island appeal, with a leafy central square, tavernas and a handful of friendly shops. We arrive in time for lunch onboard in the beautiful bay of Livadia. Your afternoon can be spent either relaxing on board Zeus Too, a spot of fishing or paddleboard around the bay also with plenty of time to go ashore to explore Tilos and find one of the many beaches ….the choice is entirely yours. Again your evening is spent in one of the local tavernas. Then back onboard for the night, ready for another day and another bay!

Day 4

After breakfast we head further south to the exquisitely picturesque island of Chalki (pronounced Hal-key) which still maintains the essence of traditional Greek life. We anchor in the main port in the one and only town on the island, Nimborio. Nimborio is a scenic village with beautiful Venetian buildings with red tiled roofs built around the horseshoe shaped bay and a skyline topped with three windmills. You have plenty of time to relax and swim from the boat, go ashore to explore the tiny island, top up your tan on the sandy beach of Pondamos (15 minute stroll from the port) and of course sample an ouzo or 2 in the waterfront tavernas whilst deciding where you would like to eat tonight. Back aboard for a nightcap before retiring for the night.

Symi Harbour, Pedi Bay with boats at anchor

Day 5

At sunrise we head to the uninhabited neighbouring island of Alimia for breakfast, a refreshing swim before heading in a north easterly direction to Symi and the beautiful beach hamlet of Pedi our anchorage for the rest of the day and night. There is plenty of time to eat, drink, swim and enjoy a relaxing day before getting ready for your evening ashore, there are just 2 tavernas to choose from here or take the bus to the ‘Secret Garden’ and a 10 minute stroll back down the hill, will take you back to the bay, a few cocktails on the beach before we pick you up with the RIB.

Day 6

A leisurely start with maybe a swim before or after breakfast. We then up anchor and head on to the port of Gialos. This is the largest settlement on the island and is graced with a waterfront that is pure magic; a lovely mix of pastel painted; red-tiled neo-classical houses arranged in a tiers around an amphitheatre bay. You will have time to explore the town or if feeling energetic you can climb the one or two stairways from the port to the upper town of Chora, it’s worth a visit to take in the bay views from the windmill topped headland. A well earned dip at the local beach which is only a 15 minute stroll, with tavernas galore guiding your way. Enjoy your lunch and evening meal in one of the many tavernas scattered around the port. Alternatively, some of our guests have preferred to stay in Pedi, so they can still swim from the boat and have lunch on board. Then late afternoon we move to the small port in Pedi so you can walk ashore and take the local bus into Symi town. The bus ride is approximately 10 mins and runs every hour and is totally reliable. You can then enjoy the shopping and tavernas before returning back to Pedi. Symi really does have something for everyone.

View of Symi Harbour

Day 7

After breakfast we say goodbye to Symi and Greece and head for the Turkish Coast. Your lunch time stop is in the pretty Turkish beach port of Mesudiye and here we all go ashore to ‘Oguns Place’ where you will sample the finest Turkish cuisine. We then set off further up the coast to Knidos, where we anchor for the night. Here is the archaeological site of the ancient Greek city which is among the most picturesque historic attractions in the region. Perched upon a steep hilltop overlooking the natural harbour, Knidos boasts stunning views alongside its ancient ruins. As Knidos has only one taverna (which is a bit pricey) we will have a bbq on board for your evening meal, with plenty of nightcaps under the star-studded sky.

Day 8

Before breakfast we up anchor and head back to Kardamena, where breakfast is served ending your Island-Hopping Adventure on board Zeus Too and not only do you take away a lovely tan but also a suitcase full of wonderful memories. This route offers a wide variety of harbours and beautiful bays. The described routes are subject to change and can be adjusted due to weather and other circumstances. This is always at the discretion of the skipper.
